As an active member of CTA-NEA you are well aware of the many benefits of membership. When you retire, you will want to retain those benefits that are of value to retirees. We invite you to join and become an active participant in CTA Retired (CTA-R) and NEA Retired (NEA-R).

Your Organization

CTA represents more than 330,000 educators in California, making it the largest employee organization in the state. Since 1863 CTA has been the prime force in improving education and the well-being of its members, both active and retired. Retired members elect delegates from each region of the state to represent their special needs on CTA's governing body, the CTA State Council. NEA represents more than two million educators and education support personnel in all fifty states and three international units. The NEA-Retired division includes 120,000 members and is led by retirees. Retired members also hold six seats on NEA's Board of Directors. Retired members may form their own local chapters and maintain close ties with active teacher locals and/or Service Center Councils.

CTA is the state's most active and influential lobby for education issues, including retirement and health concerns. Last year CTA legislative advocates worked to pass legislation to increase buying power for retired teachers from 66% to 75%. Active participation by retirees working with their CTA-NEA affiliates continues to be an effective force in strengthening these efforts. NEA maintains a constant vigil on federal legislation, including bills that may affect your retirement benefits. Retired members are kept informed through special publications focusing on your needs and interests.
